Star player: Laura Carter
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN LADIES FC
The first team travelled to title contenders Sporting Club Albion and came away with a creditable 0-0 draw after a bruising encounter.
Albion were unlucky in the early part of the game when they lost two players to injury, neither the result of tackles and both due to the uneven and bobbly playing surface.
The early part of the game was evenly matched with Laura Carter being called into action on quite a few occasions and getting some harsh treatment from the Albion strikers.
The referee handled the situation well and maintained order.
Within the first 20 minutes first Debbie Hastings shot over the bar and then Emily Heckler had an excellent left foot shot tipped over by the Albion keeper.
On the half hour mark Carter made an excellent save low to her left to deny Albion and as the half wore on she was called into action regularly to make a series of good stops.
Kate Mallin struck a free kick just over Albion's bar before half time.
Rachael Ackroyd shot just wide early in the second half and then twice within the space of 5 minutes, Beth Jennings cleared goal bound shots off the line.
With 12 minutes remaining Heckler's shot was parried onto the post by the Albion keeper, but for the remaining minutes it was all Albion. Town's back four of Jennings, Fiona Berry, Alex Hindwood and Katie Lockwood, plus the heroics of player of the match Carter kept Albion out and made for an exciting and entertaining end to a goalless draw.
